Child and sex abuse investigations were launched in the UK in 2012. The allegations were historic. Various 'celebrities' have been interviewed by the police and some are now facing court appearances. Through it all there have been insinuations that abuse involving members of previous governments in the UK occurred.
Social media and online blogs have posted accusations and more. This led to the incoreect naming of Lord McAlpine a former minister. Legal action followed.
It would seem, however, that there are accusations to be answered by some ministers.
Last year Labour politican Tom Watson tried to raise the matter. A member of a peadophile ring allegedly boasted about his connections with a "senior aide to a former Prime Minister". The allegations centre around a guest-house and date back to the eighties. Some of the victims were at that time in 'care'.
Watson has been pushing for the investigation. Now police have said initial investigations have revealed enough evidence to warrant a full investigation.
In Parliament in October Watson told a hushed House, "The evidence file used to convict paedophile Peter Righton, if it still exists, contains clear evidence of a widespread paedophile ring. "One of its members boasts of his links to a senior aide of a former prime minister who says he could smuggle indecent images of children from abroad."
In November 2012 there were claims that the late Sir Peter Morrison, an aide to former PM Thatcher was involved. At that time the Conservative Party was investigating allegations about another person.
Mr Watson has rightly shown a dogged determination to uncover the truth. One would like to think that he would have done so no matter which political party was involved. He was also active in the search for answers during the Leveson inquiry.
It now only seems a matter of time before a 'scandal' breaks. If those named are deceased it will mean that the perpetrators go unpunished. This has proved the case with Jimmy Savile. It also does not allow the person to respond and clear his name if possible. We should not forget that already there has been one person wrongly named.
We are left wondering just how many ministers knew of this affair, as it was happeneing. How corrupt is government in the UK? Will it prove to be like Savile and the BBC, where everyone knew but no person spoke out?
