The visit to the vet's yesterday left the verdict on Tinka's swelling uncertain. The little chap behaved superbly in spite of the trauma. In the end we agreed to Tinka wearing a muzzle whilst his "lump" was drained slightly. He has not been with us long enough to say without a shadow of a doubt that he would not snap or bite. He was very brave though and behaved impeccably. Way to go Tink.
Tinka is now taking a course of antibiotics for ten days. The vet wanted to give a strong dose in the hope that it will do the trick and cure any infection. If the lump does not reduce by the weekend we shall make another appointment. Better safe than sorry.
Out came the trusted Dairylea cheese triangles when it was time for pill number one. Experience has taught us that this is one of the best ways to give a dog a pill. Simply break a little of the soft cheese spread and push the pill in. A little cheese after the pill has gone down acts as a reward and treat.
It is hard to think that Tink has only been with us since Monday. He has met some family members and wowed all. He snapped a little at one point when I lifted him up but that seemed to be when the lump in his tummy was touched by mistake.
By last night the crate was abandoned at bedtime. Hubby brought him upstairs with him and Tink slept on the end of the bed all night. Tink hardly moved and woke up full of joy and beans. Jessie and he raced down the stairs eager for the garden and their toys.
The crate will be useful for when we have to go out without Tinka and when he needs his own space.
