An extended version of The Voice UK kicked off at 7.20pm Saturday June 2, 2012. With just four contestants in the running for the title of First Voice UK Champion the show was going to be padded out, and some.
Introductions set the stage before the acts performed. For Tom Jones it was Leanne, For Will.i.am it was Tyler, Danny had Bo and for Jessie J it was Vince. The schedule was performances then an elimination leaving the final three to battle it out. All to play for then.
First up was Bo Bruce. An individual and quirky performer, she must be one of the show's favourites to win. A perfect song choice for BO. It was Sinead O'Connor's, Nothing Compares 2 U. Last week one judge, Will, complained that one acts' performance was too similar to the original. Perhaps that was the only downside with Bo's performance. An emotional performance from Bo whose Mum was too ill to attend the final.
Leanne next and she performed This is a Man's World. A bit of a dated song but a perfect song choice for her powerful bluesy voice. A bit screechy at times sadly. Could be that Leanne will be the one to be eliminated. The other three are more contemporary and it will depend on who bothers to vote.
Tyler was next followed by Vince. Tyler went for I'll be there, with more falsettos than a soprano, whilst Vince opted for Many rivers to cross. Both good but for this blogger Bo was the winner at this stage.
Voting lines were now opened.
Then it was back to square one only with a twist. Each act was to perform with their mentor. First up was Bo and Danny followed by Tom and Leanne. Read all about it for Bo and Mama told me not to come for Leanne. Again Bo won hands down. She is the Bookies favourite so will there be an upset?
Tyler and will.i.am went for one of will's own compositions. OMG. Both performers dropped in literally. Lowered onto the stage via wires it was going to be a quirky performance, for sure. Fans of acts like Usher may have loved it. Oldies like this blogger were unsure. By the end of the performance though we were won over.
Last up then was Vince and Jessie J with Nobody's perfect. So were they? Not bad but somehow their voices did not quite gel. We still thought it would be Leanne going home but before the results of the first act eliminated there was more padding plus a performance by Ed Sheeran.
Voting lines were now frozen and there was yet another look back over the competition. The Voice UK was a massive success in its early weeks but voting numbers have dwindled recently. It the Final show is a success it will no doubt be back next year but we shall have to wait and see.
Elimination was surprise, surprise Vince.
Voting lines reopened and each act performed one more time. Bo first with Coldplay and there she was glowing in the dark again so reminiscent of her early performance. Leanne went back to Run to you and Tyler to Higher Love. Both great but in very different ways. Leanne may have clinched this round but who will win? Damned if we know.
A performance by Maroon Five but apart from that the show was dragging on interminably. Before the final result the four mentors performed a selection of their best. Overall it was a good final show but should have been shorter. Finally then the winner.......
The Voice UK 2012 is Leanne
